Future activities
With partner organizations, the following projects have been designed and we are looking for financial resources in order to implement them:
Mali/Helen Keller International
Operations research to reduce anemia in pregnant women in Mali by working through “grandmother networks”:
The objective of the proposed project is to test and evaluate a community-level strategy to involve mothers-in-law as catalysts for anemia prevention at the household level. The strategy will promote: iron supplementation; malaria prevention; de-worming; use of bed-nets; and improved diet among pregnant women. It will also strengthen “grandmother health promotion networks” at the community level.Burkina Faso/Helen Keller International
Community gardens and nutrition education with grandmothers to improve the nutritional status of women and children:
The goal of the proposed project is to increase the production of food products rich in micronutrients and their consumption by women and children. The strategy is based on the creation of community garden that will increase the production of nutritious elements available to the community. It will strengthen the knowledge and advice transmitted by grandmothers regarding food, nutrition, and gardening in order to improve the food and nutritional practices of younger women of childbearing age.Other projects are being developed in Nicaragua and Malawi and will be reported on here later.
